Dynamic Response

This page presents an implementation of Newmark's Method that allows for the calculation of structural response to a variety of displacements and excitations. Nathan Newmark first published this numerical time-stepping method in 1959. This particular implementation is based on Anil Chopra's excellent Dynamics of Structures textbook. 

The spreadsheet allows for various forms of excitation:

• initial displacement

• initial velocity

• arbitrary forcing via p(t)

  • impulse load

  • harmonic forcing

  • inertial loading from a base excitation
